The Role
At Last Mile Health (LMH), we are all stewards of our reputation and resources. Do you have extensive experience with institutional donor business development in the international development sector? If so then you may be our next Senior Director, Business Development.
Reporting to the Managing Director of the Partnerships & Communications (P&C) Team, the Senior Director, Business Development will be responsible for building a strong pipeline of potential awards. The Senior Director will also oversee and implement the pre-award process for restricted institutional donor awards, bringing experience with institutional donors (US government and other governments, Gavi, and/or The Global Fund). This role will lead efforts in collaboration with P&C and LMH leadership to raise an increasing proportion of institutional donor funding over the next five years, in line with the organization’s programmatic and revenue growth strategies.
This role is open to national and international candidates located in or willing to relocate to Accra, Ghana. This role is also open to candidates located in the Eastern Seaboard of the United States with US work authorization.
What you'll do
Business Development
- Regularly monitor forecasts, RFPs, donor priorities, and strategies to ensure that LMH is aware of funding and partnership activities in a timely manner
- Implement and oversee partnership development and marketing efforts to build LMH’s brand with potential donors and implementing partners (primes/subs); support other LMH leaders to participate in these processes
- Manage and lead the development of RFI responses, concept notes, and funding proposals; ensure strong proposal development timelines and communication
- Ensure strong cross-organizational relationships, particularly at HQ levels, by preparing briefing documents for other LMH leaders and attending meetings with them; represent LMH at relevant convenings and events
- Build relationships with internal teams to ensure an understanding of LMH’s programming and future priorities to aid in opportunity vetting and funding pursuit
Internal systems building
- Build consistent systems and processes for LMH’s funding pursuit of institutional donor awards
- Design and implement internal orientation/training for other staff to understand these systems and processes
- Revise and ensure consistent implementation of Standard Operating Procedures for opportunity vetting, proposal development, and pre- to post-award handover
- Implement processes for building internal awareness of and plans for pursuing institutional awards (eg, engagement plans with country teams, regular pipeline reviews)
- Knowledge management - establish a system for content sharing across P&C to reduce the collaborative burden with programs teams; use Google shared drive and Salesforce to maintain records of relationship management, proposal submissions
People management & team leadership
- Direct management responsibilities for Manager for Institutional Business Development
- Cultivate a strong culture of business development across the organization through the implementation of orientations, training, and capacity building
- Serve as a key P&C team leader, participating in the design and execution of cross-team professional development and team-building activities
What you'll bring
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline
- Extensive experience with institutional donor business development, including experience building internal business development systems for pipeline management and pursuing restricted grant funding
- A track record of successful proposal development with governments and multilateral institutions (USAID experience a must)
- International development experience in the health sector
- Demonstrated experience with people management
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including cross-culturally
- Strong process orientation; ability to identify, delegate, and track process steps
- Ability to prioritize tasks and communicate with relevant internal and external stakeholders about priorities
- Familiarity using Google suite (Gmail, Google drive, etc.)
You’ll impress us if you have
- Master's degree in a related field a plus (related fields include: Public Health, Public Policy, MBA)
- Experience with Salesforce
- Experience designing and executing training programs

Compensation for this position:
The Band for this position: SLB-5
For all countries, the range is an annual gross of $101,112 USD to $118,531 USD dependent upon experience doing an equivalent role. Please note that compensation is subject to statutory taxes.
