The Role

At Last Mile Health, we dig data. Do you have expertise in web application and user interface development? If so, you will be our next Web Application/User Interface Developer.

Last Mile Health (LMH) seeks to hire a skilled and experienced Web Application/User Interface Developer to design and develop a data portal web application. Your duties as part of the Global Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (GMERL) Data Systems team, will include working with other stakeholders developing the data portal web application. The individual must have experience in planning, developing, and managing complex web applications and data systems to help develop the next generation of Last Mile Health’s data management platform and portal, known as Last Mile Data 2.0 (LMD 2.0). 

About Last Mile Health Data Portal

The LMD 2.0 data portal will be developed to support and provide user access to a collection of data from a wide variety of sources, presented on a data visualization tool as interactive, shareable, and exportable for different data analysis use cases.

Contract  Details: This position is only open to candidates who are currently located and authorized to work in Ghana and will be hired on a 12-month fixed term contract with potential for extension. 

What You’ll Do

The following scope of work describes the key tasks to be accomplished through this contract period.

Design, development, and implementation of a new web application (data portal):

  • Review and refine previously documented requirements and use cases from stakeholders for the data portal and prioritize the range of users and use cases.
  • Plan and develop an interactive data portal, hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS), that meets a wide range of user requirements.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert in data portal development.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert in user Interface design.
  • Support and train staff in the use of the web application data portal.
  • Develop training materials (tutorials, guidance notes, etc.) for use by staff.
  • Implement and support technical solutions to deliver business requirements.
  • Contribute ideas to coding best practices and new technologies.

Operations and Support

  • Cross-train the Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Learning (MERL)  team on the data portal usage.
  • Responsible for the initial administration, maintenance, development, and documentation and handover of the data portal web application.

What You’ll Bring

  • Progressive years of expert web application and user interface development experience.
  • Advanced AWS knowledge and experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, take initiative and work well under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies is highly desirable.
  • Ability to produce high-quality code in the following scripting languages: Python, JavaScript,HTML, CSS, React, and shell scripting.
  • Working knowledge of testing approaches, ranging from granular unit tests to functional tests of entire applications.
  • Ability to take user requirements and turn them into creative software solutions using human-centered design principles.
  • Ability to make sound technical and operational decisions around a production system operating at scale.
  • Support data visualization development and implementation for data analysis.
  • Solid Knowledge of the AWS cloud and its services such as S3, EC2, CloudFront, VPC, RDS, QuickSight etc.
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer or information science.  Mathematics, statistics, or other relevant scientific discipline are also acceptable.

Compensation for this position:

The band for this position: GHA 3

For Ghana, the range is $22,260 - $42,046 USD dependent upon experience doing an equivalent role. Please note that compensation is subject to Ghana taxes.
